Irregular Error accessing database

T

Tom Ross

A new error has been showing up on my database. When a user calls for a
query or form the system will sometimes give the following error.

"The database has been placed in a state by user 'tom' on machine 'tom
machine' that prevents it from being opened or locked"

It may work several times with no error then begin to give the error.

Once it begins to show that error it will continue for some time even if
access is shut down or the user reboots. Then at unpredictable times it
stops showing error for a while then resumes

It happens with nobody else in the system or with other users in thye
system. With normal users and the administrator.

This has had me stumped for a long time.

Must have been network caused.

Our network guy (Me) wasn't aware of any problems except that the network is
a bit overtaxed.

I changed the way I linked the files from a direct link
'\\server\shared\database\file.mdb' to a mapped drive 'S:\file.mdb' then
setup the mapping on all the client machines.

So far so good!! :) Thanks
