Is 1.4 MB file too big for Excel to open?

Hi All!

I'm on OS 10.1.5 using Excel X Service Release 1. :)

I created a two-sheet workbook which is 1.4 MB. I can only assume
it's so large because I probably didn't delete columns and/or rows
and/or the resizing of the cells (taller rows and wider columns) I did
caused it.

I want to open it and do what I need to do to make it a smaller file
but it won't open and neither will the command and . keys work to stop
it from trying to open. The rainbow circle just keeps on spinning
until I do a force quit of Excel. Excel itself opens but the workbook
will not.

Any ideas how I can get this form open? (No I didn't use the "always
save a back up" option but now I know I need to, although I'm thinking
it wouldn't have mattered in this case anyway... )

Thank you for your help!!

Diane,

1.4MB is not too big at all. I don't know why it is not opening. How long do
you wait while the rainbow pizza is spinning? Sounds like the file may be
corrupt. Do you have a way to try opening it on a windows machine?

Hi Bob!

Thank you for writing back!

I wait quite a while, 5 minutes maybe... I even set it to open and
then went out to the kitchen to take care of the dishwasher while
waiting, came back and it still hadn't opened.

I emailed it to a Windows user and she couldn't open it either... :(

How does a file become corrupt like that? It was great while I had it
open, but as soon as I saved it and closed it it became corrupt
(assuming corruption is what's causing the problem... )

Any suggestions as to what I can do? I've read a little here about
"automatic backup" and unfortunately I did not have that box checked
so chances are I don't have an automatic backup...

Thank you for your help Bob!
Diane
