Is 2007 better, really?

I've been using Office 2002 at work for years. My Excel files get larger and
more complex all the time, and I'm starting to hit walls I never knew were
there. Just last month I found out about the <65,536 cell references allowed
for Trace Dependents to work.

Can anyone vouch for the performance of Office 2007? All the materials on
the MS website are devoted to how EASY it is to use. I don't care about that,
I can figure it out. ***I need to know if it WORKS.***

Do large Excel spreadsheets really open and calculate faster? Do large
Access databases really run queries faster?

I work at a small not-for-profit. Before we invest in new software for the
analytical department, we need to be sure it will be worth the time and $.

Thanks!

The "faster" part is not easily defined. There can be other issues that slow
down a file. For example, your hardware specs or whatever programs are
running in the background. The fact that you've run into limitations should
be enough to make you at least consider the upgrade.

The Excel maximum rows has been greatly expanded (although some may question
whether you need to use MSDE or Access for such a large spreadsheet), but I
don't know the exact number off the top of my head.

You might also want to look into the licensing discounts for non-profits
available from Microsoft if cost is a concern. See the information under
the Charities Option for information:
