Is 35mg large for 800 line project?

Hello, I am using MS Project 2000.
The project contains approximately 800 tasks.
I have saved one baseline.
I have added approximately 4 columns, each with two to five characters of
text.
My file is approximately 35mg.

I have tried "save as" and the file reduces in size only slightly.
Remote users replicate the project, so the size is becoming a problem.

Is 35 mg the expected size for such a project?

Thanks,

bmac.

A technique that some have tried and found to work:

1. Open the file
2. File | Save as ...
3. In the "save as type" box choose Microsoft Project Database (.mpd) and
save the file
4. Exit Project
5. Start Project
6. Open the mpd file
7. File | Save as ...
8. Save the file as a .mpp file this time.

Hello Bmac,

35 Mb for 800 tasks is a little bit large.
I have a Project 2000 file which contains 1650 rows, 2 custom fields
(without formula) : it weight 1,49 Mb.

bmac,
You mentioned using "Save As" to try and reduce the file size. You
should always use "Save As". The normal "Save" operation is analogous to
"Append", thus a file will continue to grow as changes are made. On the
other hand, "Save As" is analogous to "Replace" and the file will only
grow if "stuff" is added. This is true of all applications.

Hi,

Actually if you use File, Save immediately after opening, Project does house
keeping that includes compacting the file size. You must do File, Save
immediately before doing anything else.
