Is it a known Bug?

Hi!

When writing a document using styles in office XP (SP-2):

Sometimes when I mark a word (while the style is NORMAL)
and then use BOLD or UNDERLINE (or even numbering) it
smears all over the document and all the text is
underlined (or BOLD for that matter).

Clicking UNDO usually solves the problem so that the
action is made on the marked word only. But that, of
course, is not a an elegant solution to the problem.

Is it a known bug in office XP?
Am I not using styles and formatting the right way?

Hi Strigger

It's not a known bug; it's a "feature" that drives lots of people crazy!

In Word 2002, Format > Styles and Formatting. In the Styles and
Formatting task pane, a style will be highlighted. Right-click on that
and choose Modify. Un-tick Automatically Updated. Tick Add to Template.

If, when quitting Word, you're asked whether you want to save
normal.dot, say yes.

For an explanation of what's gone wrong and why this fix works, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm

Hope this helps.
