Is it correct to use p. in a footnote?

Just wanting to know if it is correct to use p. in a footnote to denote the
page number or just the number as in a reference?

It depends on what style you're using; many styles do use p. and pp. for
"page" and "pages," though these are often omitted when the page number
follows a volume number. You need to check the requirements of the style
manual you're following.

I would never have a p in my footnote, apart from soggy socks a plain old
simple number is more than adequate, only a fool would wonder what the
number could possibly mean or relate too so why type more than you have too?
