Scanning produces an *image* of the scanned document unless you have Optical
Character Recognition software that works with your scanner. There are also
OCR programs which can convert a scanned file to text. OCR interprets each
character, converts it to text, then allows you to save as an editable file
which can be opened in another program, such as Word.
There are a number of variables involved ‹ including the quality of the
printed document you're starting with as well as the accuracy of the scanner
& OCR program, the font of the document, its layout, etc. Also, OCR doesn't
capture any of the graphic elements such as images, logos, lines or
rectangles.
Your description of what you actually want to accomplish doesn't reveal
much, but in most cases you may be better off to retype the document.
