Is it possible to install Addins without writing to the registry

Hi,
I'm just wondering if there is any other way of making my Excel addins
available without installing to the registry. I want to avoid writing to the
registry. I had hoped to be able to install my addin using side-by-side
deployment (similar to how .NET applications are now deployed). Any
tips/links would be great.
