Is it possible..

Hi,

I have a column for hourly rates for different group of people like for full
timers and for part-timers. I want the rates for part-timers to be visible
but the one for full-Timers not visible so that user can see only
part-timers' rates. Is there any way I can do that. I mean black out rates
for full-timers but see hrsly rates for part-timers.

Is it possible and if yes, how can I do this?

Thanks so much in advance.

There's no way short of manually hiding the entries one at a time you don't
want other users to see before giving them the file. You could use Mike's
trick of selecting the field for the resource whose rate you want to hide
and changing its font (right click and select Font in the popup menu) to
white text on white background. If you have a flag field defined to
identify full-time versus part-time people you could probably come up with a
macro to automate the font changes but I wonder if it would be worth the
trouble. And of course, if the people viewing the file are at all
knowledgeable it'll be a no-brainer for them to make it visible again if
they get curious.

I tend to think that people who need to see and be able to modify the actual
project file, as opposed to getting selected reports or PDFs of selected
views vetted through the project manager, generally would have a "need to
know" of such things as resource rates. It may be legitimate to hide salary
data of their co-workers from the resources but OTOH there's rarely any
reason a resource needs to have access to the original project planning file
in the first place. Send him something like the "who does what when"
report instead. Send his boss a PDF of the Gantt chart if he wants to see
the "big picture." The resource or his boss don't even need access to the
file to post in schedule revisions or actual work - IMHO those sorts of
things should always be routed through the project manager for review or
approval before they're entered into the file anyway.
