Is my MS Office 2010 legitimate?

A computer tech (friend) installed Office 2010 on my (home Windows 7 desktop) computer for free. He did it by remote, across the Internet. I ask for the product key. He said I don't need it. He said one of his friends was an admin, had an extra copy and was not using it, so he gave it to me. The product (Outlook and Word) says it's "Activated".

If it's bootleg I will have to remove it.

If you didn't pay for it, then it is almost certainly NOT legitimate.

Your friend may have a multi-user version whic could allow installation on three, five, or even more PC's but the terms of most license agreements are that you have to own all the machines covered by the license.

My guess is that the Admin has access to a multi-user or bulk licensing key and has used this to do the install on your machine.

If you only need basic Office then a 365 subscription at around £80 per year ($100) is good value and gives you Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access
