is not available for Word 2003 error when opeing files

I installed MS Office 2003 Pro under the MS for Home Use Program. I upgraded
from MS Office 2000, Small Business edition. When I try to open files in
either Word or Excel 2003 (have not tried the other apps), I get an error
"<file> is not available for Word 2003/Excel 2003". This occurs whether the
file was from a previous version of the app or the current. I am able to
create & save new files, just never reopen - from a double click or the open
icon of the app. I am running XP Pro on a Dell machine.

Getting the new pattern file did not do the trick. I have Symantec Corporate
antivirus (SAV). I am not sure how to disable the plug-ins with SAV. The
SAV help did not offer much help.

Hi, Bill. Search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on your hard drive (include
system and hidden files/folders). If you find it, note the folder where it
is located, and use the "regsvr32 /u" method described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 to unregister the DLL.
