I am trying to install office 97 on an xp home machine and getting the
following error. C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not
suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.

Yes, Office 97 will work with the Windows XP operating system, but some users
report problems installing or updating Office 97 after WinXP SP2 is
installed. You might have to uninstall WinXP SP2, install Office 97 and
related service packs, and then reinstall WinXP SP2.

This is a problem with the XP Home installation. The "autoexec.nt" file
has been corrupted, typically by some malware. There are numerous
messages about it over in the WindowsXP.general group with the specific fix.
