Is the Jet engine automatically installed as part of Access?

Is the Jet engine automatically installed as part of Access. In other words
is it an integral part of Access, or is it something that (if needed/desired)
must be seperately installed and initialised?

It is included autmatically.

Jet is part of the OS. For instance, Vista and 2003 Server SP2 include
newer versions of Jet.

It depends on what version of Access and Jet your referring to. Access 2000
and above uses Jet 4.0. Jet 4.0 is pre-installed in the OS and is not
installed by Access or Office setup. Access 97 uses Jet 3.5 and does install
this version of Jet. Jet version 3.5 and earlier is not pre-installed in the
OS.
