Is there a hot-key combo to insert static date

I know i can pick from the "Insert" pull-down, but i would rather just type
in a hot-key combination to enter the date in the format MM/DD/YY.

Just assign this short macro to a hot key combination:

Sub DateStampII()
' Inserts current date
Selection.InsertDateTime DateTimeFormat:="MM/dd/yy",
InsertAsField:=False
End Sub

If you really want to do this from the keyboard, you can use Alt+Shift+D to
insert a date field and then Ctrl+Shift+F9 immediately to unlink the field
(you'll need to press the left arrow key once to position the insertion
point in the field before unlinking).
