Is there a maximum number of pages Frontpage can manage?

I'm managing a website with 600+ pages at present on a Win2k web server. To
edit the site, i'm using Frontpage 2003. However a number of bugs have
plagued me since beginning this project.

- Pages i've edited revert back to their former selves within 24 hours
- pages I know exist do not appear in the projects structure
- new folders get created by nobody

And other weird issues. My theory is that FP does not do too well managing a
site bigger than a certain number of pages. Can anyone confirm?

Are you the only webmaster on the site? Sounds like maybe not.

There's 2 of us. She sits right next to me and we pretty much keep an eye on
whatever we both do. In other words, no, she's not changing files behind my
back and the server is not being rebooted or backups being used.

FP can do just fine. Technically, you can have as many pages as you want.
Practically though, it often works better to have smaller webs simply
because of the time it takes to synchronize a local version of FP with a
remote version when publishing.

Reverting can't be an FP issue because once a file is published or changed,
it's changed on the server. The main time this can happen though is when
someone is not working live. If there are two individuals who are editing
locally, when they publish their version of the site it will over-write your
changes.

If pages were FTP'd to the site they might not show up as the metadata for
the web doesn't know about them. Doing a recalculate hyperlinks on the live
site can often help finding these files. Also make sure that the files don't
begin with an underscore _ as this denotes a hidden file or folder to FP.

Check to see the permissions on the folder and get an idea of who created it
and when. It could be there's another server program running that is
creating folders without you knowing it. FP doesn't just create folders, it
only copies them during publishing or creates them at request.

Hope this helps,

I'll give it a go. Thanks!!

Do i apply it to my laptop (locally) or to the server where the development
site is sitting? Please note that none of the work we're doing is local on
our machines, its all on a development server.

Are you both working live on the server or locally?

The app has been run and some of the problems still exist. I'll have to wait
a few days to see ift it reverts back however pages that were not visable in
FP are still invisible... even though I can see them through explorer.

PS... thanks for everyones help so far!!
