Is there a more active board for Mac/Office questions?

Just wondering. Most discussion groups I visit have much more traffic and
answers within minutes rather than days. Am I posting in the wrong areas?

If you were referring to your other question, you are sorta in the wrong
area--that's a Word question, and the Word group gets more traffic.

That should be:

microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint
microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage

All of those are busier than the just "office" group, because who's really
an expert in "office"? So many regulars do not bother to check this group
very often, or at all, including at least one person with lots of experience
with pix and Word.

Whoa there Paul! Daiya got it. My question about the inactivity of the
board was prompted by another question I posted a day earlier about pictures
disappearing. Just for the record, many other programs I use have very
active, lively discussion forums. I don't think it's unreasonable or
insulting to anyone in any way for me to inquire as to whether there are
other, more active boards.

As far as my questions being interesting, I hope that's not a criteria for
posting. Interesting is a very subjective thing. My question was
interesting enough to me in order to prompt its posting. I'm sure there are
many, many things you find interesting that would bore most other people.
Besides, it would be a poor reflection on Microsoft (and the people who were
kind enough to answer my questions) to think that only "interesting"
questions are worthy of being asked or answered.

As far as your subsequent answer to my most recent question regarding seats,
I'm sorry the formatting threw you so badly. 4:44A, huh? My question was
an honest one about Word vs. Office upgrade paths.

Let's forget about all that and I'll re-ask my first question in that post
and that was, can I buy additional seats for an existing program?

I think Paul did answer your question.Or get student/teacher edition, which basically comes with 3 seats.

It sounds like you bought one copy of office, upgraded it, but continued to
use both copies (I suspect that's not legal, I think an upgrade license is
supposed to be the same seat, since I'm pretty sure you can't sell the old
upgraded copy). I also don't think you are supposed to use the same old copy
to buy two upgrade copies. Legally, I think you need a whole new copy. But I
don't study EULAs.

Re interesting questions--no one gets paid to be here. I hang out in
general because I learn more than I share, and it's just as easy to check
this group while checking the Word one. Less people hang out here than on
the program-specific groups because this group is less interesting to them.
That's just the way it is.

use both copies (I suspect that's not legal, I think an upgrade license is
supposed to be the same seat, since I'm pretty sure you can't sell the old
upgraded copy).

My wife continued to use the old copy of Word on the old computer while I
moved onto a new computer and into the Office path. I don't know if
continuing to use an old version of a program bought and paid for by a
previous owner of an old computer is illegal. If it is, I was guilty (and
so are a lot of people who buy old computers). I do know that while any
time I launch any Office app on my laptop without first killing any open
Office apps on my desktop, I am "reminded" of the license restrictions.
That was never the case with the old G3 running Word and the new G4 running
Office.

I understand. I certainly don't get paid to answer questions on the
professional boards in my area of expertise either and I do, as you do,
learn more than I share. I guess I overreacted. I've just never been told
(nor told anyone), a question was too uninteresting to deserve an answer.

In my area of interest there are boards sponsored by the software
manufacturer and there are lots of "private" boards populated by people who
have an avid interest in the software. Maybe this is sacrilege but, in my
question about "more active boards" I was fishing to see if anyone might
know of additional active MS Office or Word boards respected by the folks
here, whether associated with MS or not. I tried to Google the question but
any combination of words I tried produced millions of hits! I will, in the
future, if the question is appropriate, post on the more specific program
boards.

actually enforces.

You could not have bought a two-seat version of Office at time of purchase
either. It doesn't exist. Either you buy multiple single copies/licenses
or you are a corporation that buys a lot of seats (might start at 10-20).
There is no family pack. The exception is the Student/Teacher edition,
which in the last two versions has acted as a 3-seat family pack.

You should use Help | Send Feedback to inform MS that you would buy a family
pack if they offered one, maybe someday they will.

In my area of interest there are boards sponsored by the software

Do let us know if you find any. I've seen various threads on tidbits.com,
macworld.com (I think), and such sites, but haven't looked for active
forums. There are a lot of sites slurping these newsgroups, though. I would
suspect Word questions get asked anywhere there is a congregation of Mac
users.
