Is there a quick key to get to the end of the "Task Name" line

J

Joe

I have a project plan with over 2000 lines. I am using the workgroup
functionality. When you send out the status request, the summary task name
is not included in the task names that is sent and seen by the user, so there
is no way for them to see the summary section name. I now need to add the
spec number to the end of each task name so they see what section it comes
from. The only way I can see doing this is to click the end of each line
then type in the section number. Is there an easier way to get the cursor at
the end of the line without using the mouse click? Like a short cut key of
some sort? It will make the process much faster.

Click on the first task name you want to edit.
Press <F2> (that will edit the field and put the cursor at the rightend)
Type whatever you want -- probably a space then something
Press <enter> (which will put the cursor at the next Name field)
Press <F2> (lather, rinse, repeat)

If you want the cursor at the left end then you'll have to press <Home>
after pressing <F2>

Or .... (and you'll have to assess how much typing you can save) ...

1. Open two text columns (Text7 and Text8, for example)
2. In Text7 put the section number and drag/copy/whatever to fill in as
many rows as possible.
3. RightMouseButton at the top of Text8 and select "Customize ..."
4. In the popup click on the formula button to open the formula window popup
5. Set the formula to [Name]&" "&[Text7] (kinda guessing here, don't have
P2000+ on this machine)
6. Click on OK to close the formula popup.
7. Look for something about summary lines and click on the radio button to
select them (assuming that's what you want).
8. Close the Customize popup.
9. Text8 should now have what you want to see in Name.
10. LeftMouseButton the Text8 column header to select the column
11. Ctrl+C (to copy the column)
12. LeftMouseButton the Name column header to select the column
13. Ctrl+V (to paste the column).

Thank You JLB!!! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Is this documented
anywhere? I always wondered if there was a short cut key for the Indent as
well. I'll look in the help file.

Thanks again!

In P98:

Help | Contents and Index | choose the Index-tab.
In the search box type "function keys" (no quotes, of course).

Hi Joe,
If you haven't found it already, the keyboard shortcut for indent is
[ALT]+[SHIFT]+ [Right arrow key]. Outdent is [ALT]+[SHIFT]+[Left arrow key].
If you like keyboard shortcuts, you may turn on the display of the shortcut
in the screen tip of the toolbar buttons. Go to Tools --> Customize -->
Toolbars.
Click the Options tab, click in the "Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips" check
box.
Hope this helps.
Julie
