Is there a setting to do a one-off merge?

Hi please help!

I've linked to an Access 2000 database.

The merge occurs every time you navigate records (it scans
up to 2500-odd records). Clicking 'previous record' on the
merge toolbar is particularly slow. I only want the merge
to occur once, is there a way of doing this?
