Is there a suggested maximum count of contacts

I am using Outlook 2002 on a single Dell machine with 512
MB memory & "GenuineIntel ~2525 Mhz" processor, Win XP. I
use Email, Contacts, Tasks, Calender, & Journal every
day. I have 950 contact records. I have been using this
system for about 5 months. I have about 950 contact
records. I synch w/ a HP iPAQ

In the last 2 weeks, Outlook seems to have slowed down
significantly. It often takes 6 seconds to open a contact
record after doing a Find. These changes make me question
my choice of Outlook.

Over the next year my count of contact records could
increase to 3000.
Is there a limit to what Outlook was designed to handle?
Should I consider a different program for my contact
management?
Are there some Outlook settings that might help it work
more efficiently?
If I should use a different program, what do you
recommend? I do not need a hugely featured program. I am
a single operator.

Hello Pat,

In Outlook 2000,

16384 Folders
16384 Items per Folder

if you permit large tables
65536 Folders
65536 Items per Folder

Maximum space of a PST file is 2GB in Outlook 97-2002

I think Outlook will need his time for 3.000 contacts.
Are there some Outlook settings that might help it work
more efficiently?

Maybe additional PST files or subfolders with less contacts per folder.
