Is there a way to color every other line?

I'm wondering if there's a way to color every other line with a slight
grey color, using Normal view, in such a way that even if you Sort the
data on those lines, the grey banding still remains where they are. I
want to do this to produce an more readable document.

I've manually done this this alternative color banding, but whenever I
re-sort the data, the colors get all messed up.

Easier still is to go to the Mac OS Downloads page on the Apple website and
download Excel Expander. I've used that feature extensively with great
success.

Please include a url for the page. I just did an advanced search of
downloads from Apple.com/support/downloads for Excel Expander but it could
find nothing.

I'll admit that I haven't had much success getting the menu to load
automatically. And emails to the author were less than helpful, as there
seems to be a language barrier (I speak English.) However, I realized that I
didn't necessarily NEED Excel Expander to load each time I started Excel. So
I simply load it when I need it (I keep the icon in the dock).

I do a lot of color banding of rows, and have found this to be extremely
helpful--just make a selection of rows, invoke the command from the menu
(it's the third command from the top), choose a color, and VOILA!

If you want to remove all the banding, simply make a selection and choose
"No Fill" from Excel's Formatting Toolbar.

Hope this helps!

The disadvantage of using Excel Expander is that when you sort, the
bands stay attached to the original rows. In the Pearson method,
banding is independent of sorting.

Hi Pitch,

I've noticed several people ask this question lately so I took MVP Chip
Pearson's formula and made what I hope is a useful step-by-step guide
specifically for Mac Excel 2004.

Here's the link to the file download (it's a PowerPoint presentation):
