Is there a way to Replace with a ^?

Replace will not replace a character in my document with a ^. Is there a
way to work around that?
It says it's not a valid special character in the Replace with box.

Tonya,

Type the ^ in your document and copy it to the clipboard (CTRL+c). In the
replace with field type ^c which represents the contents of the clipboard.

Tonya & Greg,

Actually you can specify it in the Replace box as: ^^
(that is, two of them).

Thank you both, now I have 2 ways to do it ... decisions, decisions. :)

BTW, Greg, I didn't know that about the contents of the clipboard ...
been copying and pasting in the boxes, so it, too, will be a very useful
tool. Learned lotsa stuff from my question.

Especially useful if you are attempting to replace with a field code like
hypertext.

Now that I've played with all of this for awhile, I have another
question. When I copy a heading the formatting copies fine but it's no
longer a heading ... it's Normal + 16pt. WD2002

G'day Tonya Marshall <[email protected]>,

that is the expected functionality from references. For example, when
I use x-refs to say See <3.4.1> <My Long Topic> on page <69> I do NOT
want it to look like heading 1.

If you MUST copy the format, select and copy the whole para - the
formatting for the para including the para style is kept in the para
mark at the end.

I find it interesting that there is a little black square to the left of
the replacement text just as if it were a heading and the line spacing
is the same as the heading style, but the copied paragraph mark is
Normal size.
Just to see what would happen, I made a TOC and the copied headings
showed up in the toc.
When I click on the copied headings the style is Bold + 16 pt, Kern at
16 pt, but it behaves like a heading.

Selecting the paragraph mark alone in the pasted text from ^c, the style
says Normal + before 12pt, after 3 pt which is the spacing in Heading
one. The text is bold and 16 pt like the heading style, also.
