Is there an easy way to change a color in a Word template?

I am using Word 2003. For our holiday letter, we have chosen a Microsoft Word
template. We anticipate that management will ask if we can lighten the color
of the main document. I understand this can be done by extracting the image
and working with only parts of it in a photo editor. Is there a quicker and
easier way to modify a template?

You don't say what template you're using, but I'm guessing that you can click
on View | Header and Footer, left-click and then right-click on the
background image, left-click on Format Picture | Picture tab, and increase
the brightness setting and/or decrease the contrast setting until you get the
color intensity you want.
