Is this normal search behavior?

celticPassage

Using ON2007 (and Vista Ultimate) I searched for a term "software"
ON found several pages where the term ocurred.
However, it did not find a section entitled "Purchased Software"

Is this normal behavior for the search? That is, does it not find sections
when searching?

Oh. I also discovered that it didn't find all of the pages either (it finds
12 pages) whereas searching for the same term but with the focus on the
"Software" section it finds 13 (the extra page is in the "Software" section)

YES, this is just normal behaviour.
"Section" names/tabs are not included in a search. Only *pages* are
searched.

As a workaround:
a) Create a "Table of Contents" in each of the sections: This can easily
be done with the "Table of Contents" PowerToy [1];
b) Change the tile if the new page to the name if the section.

I don not fully understand that.
What do you mean by "focus"?

All Notebooks

This does not matter.
Section names are not searched.

Obviously Ben's question was not too much on topic <bg>

By focus I meant that if I have the "Software" section open. That is, the one
that I am currently looking at, have "selected", it finds 13 pages, if that
is not the current section the search finds 12 pages.

Thanks for the table of contents (TOC) idea. But, while the tool is neat, I
don't find it very useful since it lists the pages by date created/edited
rather than alphabetically. If I was really going to use a TOC then I think
it should be alphabetical since if I was looking for a link to click on I
could find it alphabetically, but not by the date created/edited.

Thanks for the reply.
I have no idea on what might be happening in so far.
Any rules detected on what is shown in addition?

The author thought that a TOC would be most useful if it shows things in
chronological order.
But quite some folks said they'd prefer alphabetical order.
Therefore John Guin added a slight modification which disables sorting
[1].
After having applied the change by running the REG-file to get the TOC
in alphabetical order takes 2 steps

a) Run the "Sort Pages" PowerToy [2] in order to sort the pages;
b) run the TOC PowerToy.

P.S. 1.) If you do not want to work with a TOC as a workaround for
finding the sections in a search just add an empty page with the section
name in the title.
2.) If you want to replace the "Table of Contents" button in the toolbar
by an icon pls see "John Guin: How To Modify OneNote toolbar buttons for
installed addins"
