Is this possible??

In Project, I would like to assign a resource to a task and, of course,
assign a date to when that task must be complete. When that date arrives in
the project, I would like an email which I've already set up as a template to
be AUTOMAGICALLY sent to the resource letting them know that their task was
due. Is this possible? Has this been done before? Does it require custom
coding? Has anyone written a procedure to handle such an action? If this is
out of bounds for this software, has anyone heard of any other project
management tool that handles such a thing? (Please don't recommend SAP!!)
Thanks!

I am also interested in this. We are using Project 2000 and would love to
automate this proceedure.

Thanks,
Dave

CurtisZ,

Are you using project server? If so this is a standard function for users. Assuming you have an admin login to PWA (project web access) go to the admin menu, select "customize project web access", select "notifications and reminders" on the top left navigation pane and setup your mail server and select a time of day for the reminder scheduler to kick off.

Then you can go into the "server configuration" and either allow or deny users the ability to change (turn on or off) their personal notifications. This setting applies globally to anyone logging into PWA.

If you're talking about doing this from project pro I'm not sure what the answer is for the current release (2003). In prior versions (2000 for sure) you could do something called workgroup integration, which did what you described but all based on project pro and .mpp file-based project plans - not using MSSQL to store projects.

Hope that helps.

I created an email using worgroup integration from Project 2000 (tools ->
workgroup -> team status). The email contains a .MXM attachement (MSPJ.MXM)
that holds the info generated from Project. Of course, windows 2000 does not
recognize a .MXM file type. What application do I use to open this file
type? Is there any way to tell project to just send the info in the body of
the email it generates?

Thanks for the help so far,
Dave
