Is Trial Student-Teacher Edition compatible with Pro Upgrade?

H

H. Ross

I am a little nervous that I may have made a mistake... I have a new laptop
that came preinstalled with the 60-day Student-Teacher Trial version of
Office on it (Word, Excel, Outlook & PPT). Before activating the Trial, the
software let me know that I could upgrade to the Standard version if I am not
a student nor a teacher (which I am not). I also knew that I wanted to
upgrade to the full Professional version so that I could also use Access.
Wanting to be completely honest and legal about it, I went to the store and
bought an Office 2003 Professional Upgrade version of the software in the
box. I have not opened the actual box that the Pro Upgrade came in yet (just
the plastic security box outside of the packaging), but I suddenly got a
sinking feeling that the Trial version I have may not be eligible for the
upgrade to Pro edition. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying the
Pro Upgrade instead of the Standard Upgrade. Before I break the seal on the
retail box, can someone let me know if this is going to work or not? And if
not, what are my options? Does the Student-Teacher Trial get me anywhere as
far as upgrades go?
Thanks.

As you've heard, you can't do an upgrade from the Students and Teachers
edition. What you wanted to do was to purchase a full version of another
edition - Professional. You're going to have to spend about $499 US for it.

Thank you for your answer.

I have Office 2003 student version, and now, I get a Office 2003
Professional version. When I install the Pro version on my laptop, will I
lose the information I save in Student version? How about Outlook Express? Do
you happen to know will I lose newsgroup info there?

Thanks

I have Outlook installed on my system but use Outlook Express. I don't think
you're going to have a problem there.

I'd STRONGLY recommend you back up all of your work/important files.
Uninstall Office S&T. And finally install Office Pro. If you dump one on top
of another you're asking for problems. It *could* work just fine - or it
could come back to haunt you. Err on the side of caution. Please?
