is vista compatible with office 2003 professional

when i open an existing document on my new vista comp that was created in
office 2003 on my former comp, i get a message ...word has closed....and
this is the event log....any ideas.....hopefully vista is backward compatible
with office 2003....i have a feeling microsoft is about to get into my wallet
again.....
