I have the same problem running Office 2003 under Vista Business (MS Windows
Server 2003 linket thorugh the VPN). Trial version of Office 07 have been
deinstalled before Of.03 installation and outlook have worked correctly until
last weak. Probably some updates have curupted him.

It crashes mostly when I try to open some folder; mostly imediatelly ater
the outlook open but sometimes after a while of using.

Ok, this is not a Word problem. First, everything worked fine. Then I
experienced the same problem. Then everything worked fine again (
restored a break point the last time I opened Word). Now it doesn'
work again. So I'm stuck and hoping for a solution

Now for details

I use Vista Home Premium with Office '03. I had removed the 200
office trial program shipped so that didn't interfere. I also hav
another word processor installed on my system. When MS Word crashes s
does the other word processor. Oddly enough, simple texts in a Word do
will not crash word (i.e., with this particular crash form CAPM1K.DLL).

When I successfully restored the restore point the first time, ther
were two installs (actually auto updates) in between the time of th
restore point and when I noticed that my Word processors were crashin
with CAPM1K.DLL. One was with McAfee and the other was with Apple'
iTunes. I'm not sure whether in fact either one of these actuall
caused the crash because after the restoration I redid their updates an
everything worked fine for a few months.

Unfortunately, my current attempt to restore did not work (and I'
annoyed at Microsoft because they don't let you go very far back i
restoring a system break point (even when you check off the box fo
"older than 5 days")

Anyway, that's where I am in attempting to resolve whatever is causin
the crash

Maybe someone can provide a solution based upon my experiences an
observations

More Info on this -- A LOT MORE

Ok, this is definitely not a Vista or Office problem (except maybe i
terms of compatibility).

This is a Canon printer problem. If you noticed in my previous post,
mentioned that complex files do not open but simple ones do.

Well I went into the system folder containing CAPM1K.DLL and renamed i
to CAPM1K.DLO just to see what kind of crash I'd get (the folder is:
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 - and yes "3" is a folde
name containing the offending file). The date of the file is 12/6/01 1
AM.

Well, the crash DID NOT occur - but before the program loaded, th
following dialog box appeared:

Failed to load printer fonts. If the printer has its own fonts, the
will be
omitted from the menu. (Reported by CMyAvailFonts::Create stage 2).

This is in fact a Canon file. If you have a Canon printer or device
this may be the cause of the evil in the Word Processing Crash.

I know that this is a Canon file because:
1. My default Printer is Canon
2. The other word processor is warning me that my document in tha
word processor was formatted for a Canon and that my Canon printer i
not available to me (duh! I changed the offending DLL name).
3. I have an installation folder for my Canon D660 printer/copie
with this file in it.

I'll update you if and when I find a definitive solution

Go to the Canon Website and download the Vista drivers for your Canon
printer.

If you have a non-local printer -attached to an XP machine-, you will
need to connect your Vista computer to the printer (as if locally) and
install the drivers (i.e., "Add Printer...") pointing to the downloaded
updated drivers on you got from the website.

Then, after detaching the Vista Machine, you could either reconfigure
the port or do something that I found to be a bit easier. Again, "Add
Printer..." and choose the network Canon printer. You will now have two
of the same printer (one with a local port - the first one - and the
networked configured printer). The important thing is that both
printers will still be pointed to the newer Vista drivers. The last
thing is to delete the local version of the Canon printer.

If you didn't add the first printer locally and just added the network
printer, the "Add Printer..." wizard would copy the old driver from the
XP machine and not give you the opportunity to utilize the drivers you
downloaded from the Canon website (www.canonusa.com). But with the
installed newer Vista driver from the local installation, the wizard
does not download the older XP drivers.

Anyway, good luck!
