ISO: Method for dynamically setting an InfoPath 2007 control

I have an IP 2007 form that has a number of checkboxes. I am trying to set
things up so that if one or more of those checkboxes are set, an unseen
common checkbox is set. If none of the checkboxes are set, the unset checkbox
is cleared.

I am planning on using this at Submit time to determine which of two
instructional sections are displayed in an alternative view.

One would be displayed only if none of the input form checkboxes and the
other section would be displayed if one or more checkboxes are set.

Each of the checkboxes has a text value, so I thought that I could perform a
sum of the string length of each of the fields. But it turns out that sum
doesn't work the way I thought it might.

So I am trying to figure out some other way to do this.

Does anyone have any techniques for determining whether any one of a group
of fields has a value?

Thank you very much.
