Isolating data within cells

Hi,

I'm currently compiling a spreadsheet of information based on surveys handed out to around 400 people, at an event that I helped co-ordinate. One of the data sets that I wish to enter into the spreadsheet is "which speakers would you like to see at next year's event"; on the survey, I gave participants the option to select a number of listed speakers.

In my spreadsheet, I created a column titled "preferred speakers for next year", and would like to be able to list the speakers that each participant selected on the survey within a single cell. For example, in the cell with co-ordinates Rob Smith (row) preferred speakers (column), I would list Bill Clinton, Bono, and Bob Geldof. I'd like to be able to filter values later on, for example to see all of the survey-takers who would like to see Bill Clinton.

However, when I try to filter using the Data>AutoFilter function, there's no way to isolate only the instances where Bill Clinton is entered - only the entire list of people within a cell is listed (e.g. Bill Clinton, Bono, Bob Geldof). I'm assuming that this is because I'm using commas to seperate these values within the cell, and Excel doesn't recognize them as independent.

Is there a way for me to make the values within the cell independent, so I can later more effectively filter my data (e.g. using a different type of punctuation between values)? Or am I going to have to make seperate columns for each speaker?

Thanks!
