Issue installing the Project Server 2007 as a server farm whenspecifying Database Farm Account

Hi,

I am trying to install Project Server 2007 on a server farm with a
separate DB server and the rest on another server. When it comes to
the Database farm credentials account it wont accept any usernames I
provide if it is a domain user, which it needs to be fur to the server
farm aspect of the installation. I have added the username as local
admin and tried creating DBS with the user and have been successful.

The error is " The password specified for the username account is
invalid"

I am 100% certain the password is right unless the keyboard is
changing what I type. I have even written it in plain text and copied
it in and I know I can login to the server with the same credentials
as I am running the installation with that user.

I dont think its hitting the SQL server and cant see any logging for
it except the Project Server log which sayes the password is invalid.
It is during the configuration wizard.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Molly

Hi Chak,

I am able to ping the db server from the Project server using the name
of the server and the IP. I can also logon to the server where SQL is
installed with the user and the database server and all appears to be
fine.

Thanks ,

Molly

Hi Molly,

On installation screen, I hope you entering the SQL Server name
correctly and user name in domain\username format. Also which version
of SQL Server you are using?

Also make sure you also added the domain name as local admin on both
the servers.

What else....I am unable to think further at this moment.. Let's see,
if any other folks might be have some suggestions. If anything popup
in my mind, I will post the message.

Thanks

Hi again Chak!

I am entering the name of the SQL Server as I can see it from the DB
server and other servers. I am able to connect to the SQL Server from
another server that has Report Server on so I am pretty sure I have
the name right. I am using SQL Server 2005 SP2.

The user is local admin on both the DB and project server and there is
no firewall between the two servers.

Thanks for your help!

Molly

Hi,

Did you Enabl both Named Pipes & TCP/IP protocols?

and also try to access the SQL server from other computer using the SQL
server Management Studio. see if its work

on which port number you install the Sql server?

Hi,

TCP IP and Named Pipes are enabled and I can connect via sql server
mgmt studio from the db server and another server. I have started
trying on the command line with the osql command and have Login Failed
for user 'UTV\srvmooseadmin' as well.

The command I am trying is osql -U UTV\srvmooseadmin -P Password -S
E11APVW029

I have tried with "" around user name and password and with the fully
qualified domain name for the server. Where I put the fully qualified
domain name it can't even connect to the SQL Server.

I have also tried setting a new service to run as any of the users I
have tried and when I attempt this I am told the network password is
invalid. Even in the case of my own domain user which I know has the
correct password, as I do for the other users! I am coming to the end
of ideas! :0(

Thanks,

Molly

On top of this I just read that to connect for WIndows Authentication
I need to use the -e flag so on running

osql -E UTV\srvmooseadmin -S E11APVW029

I can connect to sql from the command line. I just need to figure out
how to translate this into Project Server speak as it is impossible to
not enter a password in the configuration phase.

Thanks
