Issue loading project to server

R

Rex

I am attempting to load a work plan into MS project server. I am using the
import wizard. Once I get to Step 5, I get the error "you have not saved the
project to the server..." message. Although I clicked the Save As and saved
the project. Any thoughts on how to resolve? Thanks!

I did click the Save As link. And I save it. But it does only save to my
client. Is there a place that I should be saving this to?

Thanks!

Rex:

When you click the Save As link in the wizard panel, it should save to
Project Server. If this isn't what you're seeing, then you are doing
something incorrectly or your setup is not correct. I can't see what you're
doing, so it's difficult to troubleshoot further. If you can describe things
in more detail, maybe we can figure out what's goin on.

To supplement Gary's answers on your problem, try the following in Microsoft
Project:

1. Click Tools - Options - Save.
2. Set the default Save Microsoft Office File As value to "Project
(*.mpp)".
3. Click the OK button.

In step #2, I suspect you have set the default value to "Microsoft Project
2000-2003 (*.mpp)" which can cause the problem you are experiencing. Let us
know if this helps.

Dale,

Yes, that was exactly the issue. Now that I have changed that setting, my
projects are loading to the server.

Much thanks!

The cause of this issue is so subtle that most of us would never figure it
out on our own. We actually ran into this problem in class two weeks ago
and we tracked down the source of the problem on the Save page in the
Options dialog. Go figure. Thanks for letting us know the solution worked.
