Issue Opening Projects in Project Server 2003 - Serious Problem

I started having this issue publishing a certain project but now after a
restart i am getting this error after restarting the client box.

"You have chosen to cancel logging on to Project Server"

I have rebooted the web server but did not see any event log messages on
reboot or subsequent access attempts that would indicate this problem.

I have however found quite a few event messages from around the time this
issue started:

I am not sure if it will hold.... but it seems after i accepted more tasks
in PWA that every thing is connecting fine now... very strange.

I take it back - it still occurs. I installed SP1 for project server
(already have project sp1) and when i tried to publish, it worked the first
time, but the second time starting giving the error again.

I rebooted and it worked for a bit, then started giving this error again.

This is extremely frustrating.

OK, so reboots do not help, but I can fix it with the following actions:

-I have to checkin the project as it will not let me close the project
effectively
-I must have a task to update from a user
-I update the task from PWA - then it opens the project properly and allows
me to save - until the next time.

To be clear - once this has happened I cannot open any projects from project
server and i get the error message.

I am about to open a ticket with MS as no one seems to have a resolution (at
least when searching).

Just found this in the event logs on the web server (and only one
occurance). Otherwise there are no other suspicious events....

I spoke to Microsoft today for a few hours and it seems to be an issue using
FQDN for the project server name. Although this has been working for several
months and there have been no changes to DNS nor are there errors... the
only way to fix this was to use the host name...

I know that there have been some strange issues with DNS that have occured
from MS patches (vpn and ISA server forces us to use host files for some
clients now)...
