Issue running Project 2007 with Office 2003 and accessing Project

Client is using Office 2003 SP3 and Project 2007 Pro SP1.

Windows SharePoint 2007 installed, and SP1 is installed for the Project
Server.

When clicking on a document library set for Datasheet View, the system
throws the following error:

“The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the
following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows Sharepoint
Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or
support for ActiveX is disabledâ€

First, ActiveX is enabled, because we are using custom controls for Project
Web Access (i.e. the Gantt view).

Second, this issue appears to only occur when using a mix of Office 2003 and
another Office 2007 product with SharePoint
(http://blog.sharepointhosting.com/L...st=399ed944-72d2-4932-bc13-de0586abf2d1&ID=81).
However, a test of this fix does not work.

Anyone have a solution/fix for this?

Jesse,
This is a bug in MS Office to do with the version mismatch between Excel
2003 and Project 2007 on the client PC. It has nothing to do with your
activeX controls, but thanks for that link! It shows some nice concise screen
shots to troubleshoot other connectivity issues.

I have seen your problem before, and you must run the Office repair
facility on the client to get the datasheet view working again. As I recall
(it was a year ago) you must also make a choice whether you want datasheet
view in 2003 Sharepoint to work, OR work with Excel visual reports in MSP
2007. You can't do both!

There are two choices for repairing this problem and I can't remember if
they were both helpful or not. My guess would be to try the 2003 one first.
In Excel, click on Help, and then choose 'Detect and Repair'.
For 2007, this is a separate utility that comes with MSP 2007.
Hope it helps,
Jane
