Issue with how Resource Names are listed for tasks

Help!

When I enter Resource Names on a Task Sheet (or Gantt View), MS Project 2007
Professional may reorder those names for no apparent reason - following no
apparent logic.

For example: if I enter Resource Names of Bob,Ted,Alice for task #1 Project
may change the order to Ted,Bob,Alice once I exit the Resource Name field for
that task. If I enter Bob,Ted,Alice for task#2, Project may change the order
to Alice,Ted, Bob. I can't even cut the Resource Name cell for one task and
copy it to another without Project potentially changing the Resource Name
order.

It's a minor issue, but I think that a Project Plan looks stupid when the
Resource Names are listed as Bob,Ted,Alice for one task, Ted,Bob,Alice for
another task, and Alice,Ted,Bob for a third task. Why can't get Project just
list the names the way that I want them listed (the way I entered them); or
at the very least, in a consistent manner?

Hello DNC,

Sorry, I can't reproduce what you report.

In my version (Project Professional 2007 with SP-1 no server involved),
the order that resources are listed in the resource names column (field)
in the Gantt Chart view is in assignment order. When I typed in Bob,
Ted, Alice for task 1, I created 3 resources:Bob (ID1), Ted (ID2), and
Alice (ID3). To project, you have created 3 assignments -- one each for
each resource pairing the Task with the Resource-- for simplicity sake,
Assignment A, B, C. If on another task you type in Ted, Alice, Bob
again, Project respects the order creating assignments D, E, F. If you
want to assign the same people to the same task in the same order,
select the tasks and use the Assign Resources button.

Also, I don't suggest typing names to assign resources. If you have the
option "Automatically add new resources and tasks" enabled, (the
default), if you mistype a resource's name (call Bob by Bobbie on an
assignment) you will create a new resource named Bobbie. You may want
to check your resource sheet and make sure you don't have duplicate
resources.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
