Issue with Saving

I am using Office 97 on a Compac EVO laptop with Windows 2000.
When saving a new file in both Word and Excel, it takes over a minute
to display the folders withing My Documents. The computer hangs, with
an hour glass, for another minute (times are estimated). This problem
occurs when the laptop is used as a stand alone or when on my company
network.
Any suggestions on a possible fix for this will be gratefully
received.

Sorry, I don't have a solution. I do, however, have the same problem.

I'm using office 97 on a Win2K machine. I can save, open and save_as files
quickly if my CPU is not taxed. If my CPU is taxed, anything I try to do
using the open or save as browser in Word or Excel takes forever (same
problem as below). Other file browsers for other programs function quickly
whether my CPU is busy or not.

Sorry chaps, I have no solution, but share the problem, as described by
Dudley. SaveAs and Open hangs for what seems like a very long time.
Hopefully someone with MS knowhow will read this and help.
