Issue with Synching to Protected Actuals

Christie @ CGI-AMS

I'm experiencing an issue with a handful of task plans in which the task is
marked complete (remaining wk = 0, % Wk = 100, Actual finish populated), but
when I sync with protected actuals, the remaining work for certain resources
is changed back to 1 and the task is reopened. The tasks start out as fixed
duration, non effort driven, but are changed to fixed work when the task is
closed. The resources have no actual work and in the MPWA timesheets
(according to the View Resource Assignments page) is set to zero. Any
suggestions on why this is happening or how to prevent it would be greatly
appreciated.

Christie,
That same type of problem was happening to me. I turned off managed time
periods and made all the corrections in Project. Then I was able to overwrite
the protected actuals.
With the managed time period turned off, the times sheets will push
information into Project and Project will push info into PWA.
What you have to look out for is records on one side that are not on the
other side. That will cause the discrepancies, but it is a straightforward
problem, just compare and change them to agree.
Once you have them back in sync you can turn managed time sheets back on.
You should let the geeks confirm this but it worked for me!
If you are not using managed time periods then you have something else
happening.

Are you setting % Complete to 100% yourself? If so you will be out of sync
with timesheets because when you change % Complete manually, Project
propagates the Actual Work across the task duration. When you sync, the
timesheet data does not reconcile to the task Actual Work, and data is reset.
To mark a task complete you have to zero Remaining Work. You should also
educate your team members to zero Remaining Work on their timesheet if they
have finished a task but there is planned work remaining.

We are having the exact same problem. Project seems to add 1 hour to
resources that have not charged any actuals. Unfortunately, turning off the
Managed Time Periods is not an option. In the past, it opened hundreds of
un-submitted timesheet notifications on resources PWA Homepage. We would love
to hear any other possible solutions or work arounds.

RickD – We remove remaining work from resources on tasks set to Fixed Work
automatically changing the percent complete to 100%.
