Issue with timesheet - Uncommon issue

Hi

A resource entering his time against a project called "A". But, for that
project the hours he accounted are not showing up for administrator or for
the resource (actuals he posted).

For that project only, the hrs are missing. Couple of days back, that
resource requested the project manager to assign more hrs for that project
as the % work complete shows 100%.

The project manager increased the hrs and published the project schedule.

But, I am completely lost how the hrs for that resource for that particular
project "A" were missing. The project manager approves the hrs of that
resource on a daily basis.

Please revert with some ideas on how this would happen.

Thank you
Shiva Chaitanya.

In the chain of events that you describe, it is fairly easy for the PM to
alter actual work by accident, when manipulating the task. To know for
certain, we'd have to have the exact steps the PM took, which is difficult
to determine days later.

Hi Gary

Thanks for the response. Here are the exact steps took by the PM (response
from PM)

"I increased the hours in work column in project schedule on 6/2/09. I am
not sure how that will affect the actual work. I don't think PS will select
certain dates (5/11 - 5/21) to delete the hours while increasing the hours
in work column. I increased the hours on 6/2 but some how the hours are
missing from 5/11-5/21. I don't remember rejecting the resource's hours
either. Please respond to that post with these details and let me know what
the expert said regarding this issue"

Please give me your ideas and suggestions on this.

Thank you
Shiva Chaitanya.

The correct way to increase the workload for the resource is to adjust
*remaining work,* not the work column. This likely explains the discrepancy.
We could do a more detailed post mortem to describe the exact behavior, but
adjusting the work value on a tasks marked 100% complete can certainly alter
the actual work record.
