issues with moving pst file from one drive to another

Folks,

I looked up a Msft article in moving my pst file from C to D drive. In
following the steps I ran into a few issues that I would appreciate any help
on.

1. It was recommended that before I do anything I rename the "Personal
Folders" to something more meaningful say "John's Emails". When I did that
the system did not create rename the folder but created a duplicate with
idential folder strucure. All incoming emails now show up in the Inbox under
both the folders. How do I get rid of one of them and in doing so not mess
things up?

2. I had a bunch of shortcuts and rules. All the folders from my shortcut
groups and most of the folders that my rules were pointing to are all gone.
My rules are all broken and looks like I have to go repopulate the shortcuts
again. Would hate to have to do that. If there is a way around to restore
the shortcuts - that will be great. If not, any pointers on what to do to
avoid this kind of problem in the future would be great.

Thanks for any help you can provide. If there is any additional information
you need that will help resolve I will be happy to provide that.

Sanjay.

We don't know what you did, but simply moving the PST file from one
partition to the other (after closing Outlook), should not change
anything inside the file.

Maybe you can point us to the article you mentioned?

Here's a description of how to move a PST:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/movepst.htm
1. It was recommended that before I do anything I rename the "Personal
Folders" to something more meaningful say "John's Emails". When I did
that the system did not create rename the folder but created a
duplicate with idential folder strucure. All incoming emails now show
up in the Inbox under both the folders.

Then you did more than rename. The correct way to rename a folder set's
root is from within Outlook by changing the "Name" field you'll see when you
right-click the PST root, choose Propertied, then click Advanced. The name
displayed in the Folder List of Outlook's Navigation Pane is disjoint from
the WIndows file system name the PST has. Never manipulate a PST in Windows
unless Outlook is closed.
How do I get rid of one of
them and in doing so not mess things up?

It sounds like you've corrupted your mail profile. Create a new one with
the Mail applet in Control Panel.
2. I had a bunch of shortcuts and rules. All the folders from my
shortcut groups and most of the folders that my rules were pointing
to are all gone.

Rules contain more than folder names. They also contain the path to the
folder. You'll have to reselect all of the folders in the rules in order to
update that information. I imagine shortcuts operate in a similar fashion.
