Issues with Office 2002 converting to PDF

A user is running office 2002 & has to convert PPT
presentations into PDF's. This is done monthly. We have
to use Acrobat 4.0 because some of our overseas clients
can only recieve the .pdf files in that version. When she
starts an office application she gets the error "Microsoft
Power Point has detected a version of Adobe Acrobat
PDFMaker that is known to cause instabilities in Power
Point 2002. You can download a free update that fixes the
problem from Adobe's Web site."

There is no free download I can find. Also, I am given 3
options 1. More Info 2. Continue Anyway 3. Disable for
this session.

I select continue anyway and when I try to send to the
distiller the application just hangs. KB article 302596
was no help.

Any ideas?

1. Tell the "overseas" people to get their own copy of Adobe Reader 6.0
(current version) and stop messing around. It's available to everyone
around the world (pretty much).

2. Don't use PDF Maker, use Distiller.

3. If you insist making PDF for 4.0, set Distiller to make that version.

4. Consdier using Ghostscript to make PDF files ... it's free and does
a terrific job.

Acrobat Reader is free. Tell your clients it's time to download the latest
Acrobat Reader. Then they'll be able to view file formats newer than those
we used in 1998 or whenever. (Regardless, it was a long time ago!)

You'd need to ask Adobe about that. Regardless, instead of using the PDF
maker, do a File/Print and choose Acrobat Distiller from the dropdown.
She'll probably have to tweak her Distiller settings if your clients insist
on sticking with Acrobat 4.0, though.

Try choosing Disable for this session. Then go search for PDFMaker.PPA and
PDFMakerA.ppa and rename them to PDFMaker.OLD and PDFMakerA.OLD

Ah, just checked the KB article you mentioned. I think it missed one of the
PPA files, so maybe that's why you're still seeing this warning message when
you open PPT.
