Since upgrading from NAV 2008 to 2009, Word 2002 files are acting a little
crazy. I can save a word file with word 2002 to my floppy but if i later try
to save the same file name with word 2002, I get a word cannot complete the
save due to a file permission error.
I can save word files with other names to A: using word 2002. But again
only once without error. When I uninstall NAV 2009 and reinstall NAV 2008
things are ok again. Symantec says it's not their issue.
Also, stangely, if I use windows explorer to copy and overwrite files on A:
I can do it without an error.
Any ideas on this?

Never save a file directly to any form of removable media, especially a
floppy. And never work on a file directly from a floppy. Always save/copy to
the HD first, then copy back to the HD.

Your suggestion is a good work around. Why can't we save to any form of
removeable media? I've been doing that for years (since 1989) with no
apparent problem except in the present situation.

It's because Word creates temp files in the destination folder (the folder
you are using for saving the document) and the way Word builds up the
document as it saves. This required writing and reading to the destination
folder multiple times during the save plus a temp file remains active in the
destination folder until Word is closed.

Many thousands of users have corrupted and lost documents through saving or
working directly with a removable drive. It is the number ONE document
killer. You are strongly advised to always work on your local HDD and copy
to/from the removable media.
