It opens twice evertime, :1 and :2

I have one spreadsheet, that I use everyday, that always opens twice. One
ends with :1 and the other with :2. If I close one, they both close. I try
to only use one version, however, I have lost changes.

Any idea how I did this and how to make it stop?

At some point WINDOW/NEW WINDOW was selected, which is cool if you want to
look at two different locations in the same workbook simultaneously.

To remove the extra window click the close window button on the right side
of the worksheet menu bar, or if your document window is not maximized, the
close button on the file window's title bar, but not the red button with the
X in it, which closes the application.

Also save the workbook when the extra windows has been closed or else it
will
be there the next time the file is opened

Do you see:

book1.xls:1
and
book2.xls:2

If you do then this isn't really two copies of the workbook. It's just two
views (or windows) into the same workbook.

You can select the window you don't want to see, then hit ctrl-w to close that
window.

Then save the workbook or you'll be doing it again!

Debra Dalgleish has some instructions with pictures:
http://contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#TwoWindows

This can be caused by using:
Window|New window
(maybe followed by window|arrange)

It can be quite useful to see different ares of the same workbook (even same
worksheet) at the same time.
