Well...I don't know what you did to "check both," but here's what you
should do to try to fix the problem.
Also, you didn't mention what version you're using...so these
instructions will not be for 2007.
Click File > Page Setup > Paper and MAKE SURE that the paper size you
have set is the correct one that you need.
Then check the printer and make sure that the paper tray is set to the
correct size and has the correct sized paper in the tray.
When you try to print and you get the error saying the margins are
outside the printable area...you should also see a button for FIX.
Click it and Word will adjust your margins so that they ARE within the
limits of the printer you are using. Now go back into Page Setup >
Margins and see if Word has shortened your margins. If it has...then
you have an incorrect setting...which may be within the Printer or the
Paper settings. Check again to make sure you haven't overlooked
anything!
Also...one sure way to check what the limits are for the printer
you're using is to open a blank document, go to the margin settings
and set all the 4 margin setting to zero. Word will complain that they
are not correct and will offer to fix them. Click the fix button to
let Word set the minimum margins. Whatever settings you then see will
be the minimum settings for that printer.
Also note...when running this margin test on your project paper, be
sure to save it under a DIFFERENT NAME so that if you notice the
margins are pulled it and that messed up something, you won't have to
rework your document.
Good luck...
