Italic and Bold buttons screwey

I have a user who's italic button doesn't work at all. When I highlight a
word, then click bold, it both bolds AND italicizes it! I can undo the bold
but NOT the other. I have tried a repair and a re-install. I am running
Office 2003 with SP2 and all updates. This only occurs with this user.
I have looked at that styling fix on previous posts but hasn't helped.
Please advise!!

Make sure that all the required font variants (bold, italic, bold italic)
are installed and working correctly.

Also, make sure the buttons aren't hijacked by some macro called "Bold" or
"Italic" (in a template or add-in).
As a first check, you could click on Ctrl + Alt + Num+ (where Num+ is the
"+" on the numeric keypad on the right of your keyboard), and then on the
button.
The dialog that appears should say just "Bold" or "Italic". If it says
something like "Normal.NewMacros.Bold", look for the macro -- Sub Bold() --
in the specified location.
