Italic Text

Using Word 2000 with SP-3:

When I try to make text italic I get <I> in place of the
word(s) selected. It used to work properly, but at some
point started behaving badly.

What can I do to fix it?

HOW are you trying to apply italic? With the keyboard? Or a
toolbar button? Or...?

My guess is that you have a macro assigned to whichever
command you're using that's inserting the HTML tag to start
italics formatting.

I'm clicking the icon on the toolbar.

I looked and found a macro that I started to write last year, but aborted
the effort when it didn't work correctly. Although I never assigned the
macro to the icon, that was the problem. When I deleted the macro all is
back to normal.

Thanks.

Hi Calol.

If the macro was named "Sub Italic()", that explains it.
"Italic" is the name of the built-in Word command, and your own macro of
the same name replaced the command.

Would be nice if Word would warn you about this, especially since a list of
built-in commands is hard to come by. So you don't even know which macro
names to avoid :-(

Klaus
