I have a bizarre problem with mobile/laptop users, running Outlook
XP/Outlook2003 and Exchange Server 2000. Note: this problem may affect
other versions of Outlook also but we don't run versions other than those
listed.
Problem: Mobile users work on the LAN just fine with few, if any, issues.
They use their laptops (traveling on a plane for instance) in mobile mode
and compose e-mails or modify existing e-mails (mark messages with flags,
change appointments, etc..) and have no problems. When they dial-in, VPN in
or dock into our network and do a sync of any or all folders, all
changes/new e-mails/appointments/tasks simply disappear. It appears as if
they never worked offline at all.
Background: Our network is Win2K/Exch2K, single domain and pretty basic.
All notebooks in question are a members of the domain. We ARE NOT running
Roaming Profiles. When the users boot their machines into a mobile profile,
they receive the usual logon prompt to the domain (3 line dialog box) and
logon as normal, even though the domain is not present. The notebooks logon
fine and simply don't process the logon script. Users have their My
Documents available in offline sync mode as well. My Documents
synchronization works fine too, and does not exhibit similar behavior to
that of Outlook.
Do I have a design problem here, configuration problem with my machines or
are there known software issues with this particular configuration?
Thanks in advance,
