Items in Inbox will not delete

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

Not on the Folders on my computer, but in the mac Inbox I have items that will not delete. I have tried every thing I can think of but I cannot make these items leave the inbox. I have tried moving the items to junk, nothing, The emails are a few days old but I cannot get rid of them. Now anything that comes into my .mac inbox I read and delete. If I try and delete the old items the highlighted area just moves to the next email and nothing happens...help!!!

Is your .Mac account set up as an IMAP account? If yes, then delete the
account and enter again, letting Entourage download all IMAP data again.

Generally, messages that will not delete is a sign of database corruption.
Rebuild your database.
