It's Not a Task or an Appointment

I have many notes that I want to make that are tied to a date, but they are
neither Tasks nor appointments and I do not want them showing up on my
calendar.

For example, I want to be reminded on 12/01/04 that I have stored a gift in
a certain place. (I will long forget where I hid it by then.)

Can anyone help?

Since a gift is related to a person, you could put a flag with a due date on
that person's contact record.
