I've lost my Word menus!

I don't know if anyone can help. I am trying to run Word 2001 on an
iMac with OS X 10.2.8 installed. Whether I run it in Classic Mode or
switch to OS 9.2, I still get the same problem. Only the file menu and
the fonts menu work, the others do not display at all. I am also
finding that it crashes very easily. I have had no problems with Excel
or Powerpoint. I have tried uninstalling by hand and reinstalling from
the install CD, but to no avail. I have even tried running Word
directly from the install CD, but still get the same result. I can
only assume it must be a conflict somewhere in OS X with Word 2001.
Any suggestions please as what I could do to fix this problem?
