Java Menus items a X'd

I'm sure THIS has been asked before...but what's happening with java and
Internet Explorer and FP? I have always used the java-based hover buttons
and designed my own buttons. Now I'm getting complaints that people only see
the old familiar "x" in a box instead of my hover buttons. In fact on my
laptop, thats what I get. This is not good for business is a LOT of people
have the same problem.

I understand this is a result of the war between MS and Sun. Should we stop
using hover buttons? Would it more advisable to use Flash or just go back to
old fashioned text-based hyperlinks?

Java is not included in Windows XP. Consider an alternative to hover buttons
using java applets.
Java is a client-side program, it requires the user to have it on their computer
but some don't as it may pose a security risk to their systems.

The war is over; MS won with a WMD (Weapon of Mass Dollars) which Sun
gleefully embraced.

Sure, if cheesy, unwelcome content is your goal.

Although you characterize Java as being a "war", the simple fact of the
matter is that some -maybe a lot of - people are tired of the gimmicky,
gee-whiz doo-dads and fluff, and choose not to enable the plugins that allow
these, usually, useless pieces of crap to be downloaded.

You should always provide an alternative to such so called "features".
