Journal Entries From Outlook "Contacts"

When I dragged a Contact record for Outlook to Business Contact Manager's
Contact my Journal entries didn't show up. I then switched to view all
Journal entries. Found what I was looking for. Went back to the BCM Contact.
The only place on the form that looks like a candidate for a Journal entry
is Business Contac History. Clicked "New". No path to Journal there either.

Is there a way to pull those Journal entries into the BCM Contact record? I
was just beginning to use that feature in Outlook before I decided to
explore BCM more closely. Would hate to lose it. It did take a while to scan
everything and show up under the "Activities" tab of the Contact file
though. Perhaps whatever takes Journal's place here in BCM will show up
quicker?

Q1) Is "Business Contact History" BCM's version of Outlook's "Journal"?

Q2) Is the some way get those journal entries to show up somewhere on the
BCM record?

John,

Q1) You are correct that the Business History Folder is BCM's equivalent to
Outlook's Journal. These 2 items are stored in different programs and
subsequent databases though. All BCM items are contained in the MSDE
database and all native Outlook items including the Journal are kept in
either a PST file or Exhange folder data set. Remember that eventhough BCM
is an add-in for Outlook and shares a common interface that creates the
appearance of only 1 program at times, they are separate apps with separate
data items storage.

Q2) There is no direct way to do this. An indirect (and very tedious)
workaround would be to cut and paste each Journal entry onto a Word document
that you could title something like "Old Journal Entries." You could then
link this document to the Busness Contact Record.

Thanks THP. I appreciate the help. I just began using those Journal entries
and saw significant value. Hate to loose it. How do I handle phone calls in
BCM? Do I make a WORD document, link it, then just make notations and keep
the notations in reverse chronological order with the most recent always at
the top? Or do I do that in Notes? Then again... since I'm not sharing
anything with anyone... maybe there won't be much benefit for me to using
BCM. I haven't explored the email link. I assume that gets handled
automatically. But then... I think I can do the same with Journal in
Outlook.

John,

To handle logging phone calls with a Business Contact just click on the NEW
button next to the History items section of the record and then select Phone
Log. This will create a time stamped entry in the Business History Folder of
BCM which is the cousin of the Journal folder in Outlook. All of your linked
history items will then display in this area chronologically. You can also
use different view options in the Business History folder. Just click on
this folder and play around a bit to determine just what you might like best.
